OK, so this weekend Princess Tony has decreed that he may be willing to rethink the detention powers for the government, even though he still believes he is right on the issue. Furthermore, anyone who disagreees with this is, “complacent”. His presidential address, sorry, “press briefing” today was even worse. He really doesn’t seem to understand that more and more people are thinking about all this with a mixture of horror and disbelief.
All of this, come to think of it, is more than little ironically amusing coming from quite the most smugly complacent Prime Minister in recent memory, who seems to believe that all he has to do is smile down at his minions beatifically to see that His will is done. The current government seem to be the apotheosis of the word, as they whip the lobby fodder through, creating legislation that would be hilarious if it weren’t so risible.
Perhaps now Tony is seeing how real politics works; you can’t just steamroller everything you want through, and many of the people who now oppose you are better informed, more knowledgeable, better motivated and more inclined to rebel than in the past.
Why on earth could that possibly be?
